The Furuno NavNet series both the RDP-149/RDP-139 and their 7” versions suffer the same fate as many displays used outdoors. The screen begins to deteriorate and then rapidly gets worse. Another common issue is for the screen to just go dark when the backlight fails.
At Hyde Marine Instrumentation we have repaired over a thousand of these units worldwide. The final product is just as good as new and by using modern materials for the remanufacture process the original issue is avoided. We also use a spray on UV and antiglare protection on the surface of the LCD to help with daylight viewing. We can also repair the backlight back to original condition.
The NavNet series is one of the best commercial quality head units. These units have very few issues and can withstand years of punishing saltwater conditions.
The trackball is also an easily serviceable component, the best way to keep it lasting is to spray it lightly with water after harsh use. The trackball enclosure is sealed and drains out the back of the unit by the nipple located at the bottom back of the unit.
Typical turn around time for the NavNet is 4 days. Be sure to carefully package these units before sending to our lab. The ports on the back and the trackball are easily damaged if not packaged properly.
We can update this unit while here at the lab, it is a free service from Furuno. While these units rarely have issues, we do have a full inventory of parts if needed.
If you have questions, please feel free to ask, we are glad to help.
